The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) and Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) said yesterdayy that five million Nigerians in 13 states have subscribed volunteers to boost President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.
The PDPPCO and TAN said reports from the 13 states showed that the 15 million target would be surpassed before the March 28 and April 11 elections, an indication of the favoured chances President Jonathan will enjoy at the poll. The states are: Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Imo and Niger. Others are Oyo, Rivers, Sokoto Taraba, Zamfara and Kogi states.
Director of Media, TAN, Afam Ilounoh a lawyer, said: “Although we at TAN had expected a huge response from the public as we partnered the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization to reach the grassroots with political-foot-soldiers, the volunteers, whose mandate is to showcase the achievement of President Jonathan and the PDP, the massive scrambling for forms by members of the public to participate in the volunteer scheme, has indeed humbled us.
“Nigerians are indeed already speaking ahead of the elections. They are demonstrating their commitment to President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party as well as her candidates in the forthcoming elections. This volume of response to our volunteers programme says it all and we are grateful to the volunteers,” Ilounoh said.
He stated that this response was an indication that the PDP is on ground across the country,”with supporters whose presence at the grassroots saturates the very base of electorates. We are convinced that as they continue to preach the message of transformation, development, opportunities for all Nigerians old and young, the recruits into the PDP-PCO Volunteers force will grow.”
The director said the organisation expected that in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at least 12 million volunteers will be recorded.
“President Jonathan’s achievements will be taken off the literature and be sung on the lips of this over 15 million volunteers who will be talking, speaking, discussing, sharing and disseminating factual reports of the President Jonathan’s transformation programme,” he said.
