Justice Lambo Akambo, who gave the verdict, described the conduct of the election by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSISEC) as a flagrant disobedience of a court order.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state had gone to court seeking an injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing voters’ register for the election.
The judge said the state government and RSISEC had earlier been ordered not to go ahead with the election, but that the electoral body violated the order.
Akambo said the election was not only illegal, but also an affront as the case was already before the court before the poll was conducted.
The court ordered that the purported election that brought the chairmen and councillors be set aside.
The election was conducted five days to the end of Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s eight-year tenure. -The Sun
