The ongoing jostle for the Ooni of Ife stool, which became vacant, following the recent demise of Oba Okunade Sijuwade, assumed a new dimension yesterday, as the Osinkola Ruling House, declared its intention to occupy the seat, when the kingmakers eventually choose the next monarch for the ancient city.
Prince Olakunle Aderemi, one of the sons of the late Oba Aderemi, who addressed journalists on behalf of the ruling house, made the declaration at a press briefing in Ile-Ife, Osun State, yesterday.
He stated that the Osinkola Ruling House, which produced the late Oba Sijuwade’s predecessor, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, who ruled for 50 years, was still qualified to return to the seat, stressing that they had credible candidates to replace Oba Sijuwade as the next Ooni of Ife.
Prince Aderemi said having produced the late Oba Aderemi, who was the predecessor to the late Oba Sijuwade, the Ife Chieftaincy Declaration of 1980 technically threw open the contest for the filling of the Ooni stool. -The Sun
