The old students under the umbrella of Unity Schools Old Students’ Association (USOSA) said it is important that the federal government match the release of funds for Nigeria’s education sector with an adequate budget allocation.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the vice president-general of the association Ini Akpabio said the association has been collaborating with the Nigerian government since its inception.
Akpabio, who is an old student of Federal Government College Kaduna in Kaduna state said: “There is need to sustain unity schools, there is need for the past graduates from various unity schools to go back to their schools and pick up as many projects as possible.”
Akpabio said although many old students like the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, had also been involved in various projects in different schools, more effort need to be put in especially in infrastructural development in the unity schools.
“I also want to use this medium to call on graduate from unity schools to return back to there schools and assists in developing it. Unity schools has produced governors, politicians,senators,” he said.
He added that USOSA realizes the need for a proactive collaboration with Nigerian lawmakers at the upper house to pursue legislation of laws that will lead to sustainable development in the education sector.

Akpabio also announced that the association will be holding its annual general meeting on Saturday, October 31 by 11.am at the Ekiti Hall of Nanet suites in Abuja.
Also speaking, the Executive Security of USOSA, Ahmed Lawal said the annual general meeting will basically focus on the inauguration of new members of the association.
He said the new members-Federal Government Girls’ Bakori in Kastina state and FGGC Nibusa in Niger state have paid all their required dues and are already financial members would be formally inaugurated at the annual meeting.
Lawal said that there will be presentation of reports of the activities of the association within the past four years, presentation of accounts for the past year, 2014 and inauguration of an interim committee which will conduct the association’s forthcoming election.
