The party also charged Nigerians to use the occasion of the nation’s 55th Independence Anniversary to rekindle the spirit of patriotism, while exhibiting actions that promote democratic ideals and peaceful co-existence at all levels in the country.
The PDP, in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, congratulated the citizens for keeping faith with the Nigerian project and working together in building a strong nation and one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
The party urged Nigerians to use the anniversary to re-commit to respecting their leaders at the local government, state and national levels, while paying adequate reverence to national symbols and institutions.
PDP Restores Zoning, Moves To Field Northern Candidate In 2019
Ahead of the 2019 general election, the national leadership of the PDP has zoned its presidential slot to the Northern region, a move which signals the return of zoning of elective offices in the party.
The party has also declared its plans to abolish the delegate system of electing its candidates for elections.
The opposition party is also bent on abolishing the title of party leader, saying it is not recognised by the party’s constitution.
