A statement yesterday by the Comptroller, Madu Musa, in Asaba, said the action was aimed at controlling the influx of irregular immigrants in the state.
Musa added that the command embarked on the mop-up exercise across the length and breathe of the state in an effort to ease off undocumented immigrants.
“As expected in an exercise of this nature, thousands of persons were apprehended, but after a thorough screening, Nigerians and other legally resident foreigners were released, while 712 (so far) have been confirmed as irregular immigrants (mainly of West African extraction) have been repatriated.”
The comptroller reiterated his determination to continue with the exercise, as there was logistics support, noting that the state government greatly assisted the command in that regard. -Guardian
