The contractor handling the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium project in Nnewi, Anambra State, Mr Ebi Egbe said the financier, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah has moved to ensure that the arena does not suffer the usual Nigerian poor maintenance culture.
Egbe who is the Managing Director of Monimichelle, the indigenous firm that is handling the stadium project told Daily Sunsports yesterday that Ubah has sealed a 10-year deal with his company for the all year round maintenance of the turf.
According to Egbe, one thing that gladdened his heart was the fact that Dr Ubah was looking beyond just building a world class arena, but putting plans in place on how to maintain it.
“As I speak with you, Dr Ubah has signed a 10-year maintenance deal with us and he has even paid for it up front. I want to commend him on this as we forge ahead with the project,” Egbe said.
The Bayelsa state born football buff who is also a FIFA licensed agent said construction work was going on well at the stadium arena assuring that he would deliver a turf where the Super Eagles will enjoy to play, given the kind of technology he is using.
“We are constructing a turf that is exactly the same dimension with that at Barcelona’s Camp Nou and the cocoa nut fiber technology is the same with what they have at AC Milan stadium. So, it is a pitch that Nigerians will be proud of. It is going to be a turf where the Super Eagles will want to play.”
Egbe whose company also handled the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi turf blamed the poor state of the pitch on maintenance pointing out that for seven months the pitch had not been maintained.
“I feel sad that the place is not being maintained. There is no pitch in the world be it natural or artificial that will remain lush green when it is not maintained and that is why Aper Aku stadium turf is not what it is supposed to be right now.
I just hope the state government will do something about the place and not allow it to keep decaying.”
