A resident who pleaded annonymity said that the heavily armed insurgents came in Hilux jeeps and opened fire as residents were being accredited.
This is even the insurgents burnt a bank and the police station in another attack in Dukku as resident scampered for safety
A resident Haruna Dukku said that the insurgents entered Dukku about 11 in the morning as voters were being accredited.
“We suddenly heard gunshots being fired sporadically and we had to run away to our houses. We later heard that the bank and police station were site ablaze by the insurgents,” he said.
Daily Sun learnt that the insurgents killed two people in a village nearby before storming Dukku.
It will be recalled that Boko Haram attacked Gombe on February 14 and nearly over ran the city before they were repealed by security agents using jet fighters.
The insurgents were reported to have dropped leaflets warning residents of Gombe not to come out and vote.
Efforts to get the police to comment failed as the phone number of the Police Public Relations officer was switched off.
It was learnt that the incident in Gombe has sent fears down the spine of resident as though accreditation was going on in parts of the state
