Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has returned to teaching at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) following the expiration of his tenure at the commission.
Prof. Jega, who arrived the university around 10am amidst a rousing reception by members of staff and students, first reported to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Rasheed to signify his resumption of duty.
The former INEC Chairman, had on several occasions signified his intention to return to classroom soon after the expiration of his tenure.
Receiving the former INEC boss, in his office,, Professor Rasheed, said they were happy to have him back. He described Jega as the institutions great ambassador.
“Bayero University, Kano is indeed proud of you Professor Attahiru Jega.
“You are really a good ambassador of this great institution”, the VC said , stressing that, the university’s name had been projected by the good work of Jega.
According to him the Bayero University will never forget Prof Jega, for conducting an a good election.
In his brief address, the former INEC boss, told the VC that right from the day he set out for the job, he always desired to return after his tenure.
Jega said that teaching has been one job he cherished the most. He said the love for the teaching profession informed his decision to return to classroom, barely seven days after quitting INEC.
He promised to deliver his best in teaching, research and community service.
Jega expressed appreciation to the university community for the reception accorded him.
