The incident, the Tribune Online learnt, happened at Oju-Ore in Sango-Ota area of the state.
The customs men were said to have been on the trail of the smugglers from Owode-Yewa for smuggling three vehicles from Benin Republic to Nigeria before they were intercepted at Oju-Ore bus stop.
An eyewitness said the smugglers engaged the customs men in a shoot-out, and after the dust raised settled, about five persons were reportedly found dead.
The area was said to have been thrown into confusion as people scampered for safety over the incident.
Those injured were taken to the State Hospital for medical attention, while it took the intervention of men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and combined police and military security ?outfit,”OP-MESA” to bring sanity to the area.
At the time of filing this report, the official reaction of the Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Usman Abdullahi, on the incident was not available.
He claimed that he was not aware of the incident and promised to get back to newsmen.
“I am not aware of that to my knowledge, but I will do my investigation and findings and whatever it is, I will get you posted,” he said. -Tribune
