Even though Oba Sijuwade died in a hospital in the United Kingdom on July 28, the Ife Traditional Council had rebutted the media reports announcing his passage, insisting that the monarch was alive.
The Head of the Oro Cult in Ife, who is also the Aware of Iwara Ife, Oba Layi Adereti, had on Tuesday, said traditional worshippers in the town would perform some rites on the passage of the Ooni yesterday.
Consequently, he urged residents to stay indoors between 9a.m. and 4p.m. that the rites would last.
The announcement was preceded with traditional priests taking over the ancient town performing one form of traditional rites or the other.
Among them were the Oro cultists which allegedly went round the town to appease the gods of the land for smooth transition of the late influential Yoruba Oba.
While the passage rites lasted, the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, officially anounced the transition of the 51st Ooni whom he described as an embodiment of culture and tradition. -The Sun
